Linda and the Elephants

Linda was a member of the Kopp SAP implementation training team in late 2011/2012 and remained in South Africa for a while longer after the other trainers had gone home to help the stragglers get up to speed. This gave us many enjoyable hours with Linda Ray. As a SAP trainer Linda was reminiscent of the Duracell Bunny with a voltage overload! Late afternoon she would break out the sweets to get our energy levels in line with hers and push on with the training accompanied by endless cups of tea. These sessions were often interspersed with phone calls to IT in Munich regarding something on the system not working correctly in her opinion, everything had to be just so. My wife Amanda and I had the pleasure of taking Linda out to the Africa “Bush” one Sunday and I remember her debating if she would spend the day “in her shorts next to the pool with a bottle of wine getting some sun” or come with us - luckily we won and we picked her up at what she would call “Stupid o Clock” to drive out to the Game reserve. Once there animal sightings were greeted with the standard Linda expletives and much enthusiasm. We came across a breeding herd of Ellies and Linda was very nervous about their proximity – often glancing at us and then the closing elephants to ensure that we seeing them coming closer – eventually the calm façade broke and Linda screamed “ Fxxxing Hell they are coming for us” an tried to climb on my lap from the front passenger’s seat ! I am sure you were all regaled with the story of being charged by the Elephant and saw the photo. We remember Linda with much warmth and affection and as one of our colleagues said: “The world is a much much sadder place with her passing – maybe a bit quieter though :) “We will remember Linda Ray every time we raise a glass of wine and see her smiling with us. May her spirit roam with the Elephants! Dennis & Amanda
